Save Space With a Wall Hugger Rise Recliner

As you browse our range of rise recliner chairs, you’ll notice that CareCo carries several models with the wall-hugger feature. What are wall hugger rise recliners and what are the added benefits over a standard model? Here, we explain the benefits, and the features and functions of these models to help you make the right choice for your needs and available space.

What is a Wall Hugging Rise Recliner?

Rise recliner chairs are useful for many different types of user, but mostly for people with mobility difficulties. The problem is often that the people with the lowest mobility have limited space in their homes.

CareCo wall hugger rise recliners are designed to deliver full functionality of a rise recliner but for people with limited space. They work on the same principles as a standard rise recliner:

  • Electric chairs have one or more electronic motors that tilt back the head and raise the legs or do so independently depending on your need
  • A non-motorised wall hugger rise recliner is manually operated. When seated, you simply use your body to active the mechanism
  • The riser part of the chair gently lifts you to a standing position from a seated position and allows you to sit from a standing position without putting a strain on your body

Wall huggers differ slightly in that they don’t require much space at the back. Some models require as little as 3-4” between it and the wall or anything behind it. Instead of the movable parts sliding backwards until you are slightly prone, the whole chair slides forward. You don’t need much space behind, but you do need more space in front. Most people do as they need to stretch their legs.

How a Wall Hugger Rise Recliner Works

You won’t easily slip off a wall hugger lift chair as the device slowly allows you to shift your centre of gravity and weight from the hips to the knees when rising to stand or lowering to a seated position.

The lowering to a reclining position also works slightly differently as your body moves forward in a sliding motion rather than tipping back with your hips and leaning in. Either movement may be a strange feeling at first, especially so if you’ve used a rise recliner chair before as it feels slightly different.

But rest assured that you will get used to it and they are no less safe than a typical rise recliner you may have used previously. It’s just a case of personal adjustment.

The Linea Wall Hugger Rise Recliner

At present, we offer just one wall hugger model; it’s a comfortable and stylish piece of furniture that will fit easily into your home décor, even (and especially) with the limited space available. This is a model designed for people with small living rooms or not much space in each room. The Linea is available in two colours – cocoa and graphite.

As with other rise recliners, the Linea wall hugger chair offers extra functionality on the dual motor model. You can work the back and leg section independently of each other whereas the single motor model will work both sections together at the same time.

You can lean back with your legs flat on the floor or sit up straight with your legs raised should you so desire. Let’s not forget the riser function too; this is a great design that fulfils everything you want when you have limited space.
