A mobility scooter is one of the best living aids you are ever likely to buy. They help people like you stay independent for longer, allowing you to go shopping, visit friends or simply get some fresh air. However, mobility scooters are open to the elements. It’s unpleasant having to go out in the cold and wet. You can improve your experience by investing in the right type of CareCo canopy for your mobility scooter.
When choosing a canopy from our range, here are the attributes you need to consider in your selection process.
Is It Waterproof?
You will find that most canopies are waterproof, but some are better than others. Not all construction materials are created equal. That’s why it’s important to check how waterproof they are. Eventually, some fabrics will get saturated and start to leak in heavy rain. Plastics such as PVC are better for water run-off, for example, and can be easily shaken off once removed and back in the dry. Others might require drying in a warm space.
If it’s a great waterproof CareCo canopy for your mobility scooter that you require, the Simplantex Scooter Canopy is the best option for you. It has a lightweight steel frame and stiff PVC windows. It’s the best item in our range if protection from the elements is your main preference.
Is It Compatible with your Model?
There are few attributes more important than compatibility. You need to ensure that your CareCo canopy for your mobility scooter is the right size, shape and fit. This is an important investment. Therefore, each product in the CareCo canopies range for mobility scooters has a list of models with which it is incompatible or compatible. Please ensure you check this list before making a purchase.
When making your selection, each of our models has a drop down box where you can select your CareCo mobility scooter model. Before completing your purchase, make sure you have selected the correct type. Some of our models are manufactured to order.
The Construction Material
CareCo’s canopies for your mobility scooter come in two different frame types – stainless steel and aluminium. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Which is right for you depends on a number of factors.
Stainless steel: Despite its name, stainless steel can rust, just not as easily as other steels. Paint can reduce this tendency to rust, but a single scratch may kick-start corrosion and reduce the life of your metal frame canopy. Heavier and more substantial canopies are better if you live somewhere that gets a lot of wind
Aluminium: The two advantages that aluminium has over stainless steel is that it is lighter and that it is much more resistant to rust. Aluminium will weather the elements much easier and will acquire little if any rust compared to stainless steel. The lighter weight makes it easier to manage but you will feel the difference in the wind.
The Canopy’s Weight
Aluminium and stainless steel are different weights and you will find a noticeable difference between the two materials when attaching and detaching your CareCo canopy. If you have low upper body strength, rheumatism or arthritis, you might find our stainless steel model a little too heavy to manage. An aluminium model may be preferable for you, especially at certain times of the year when a dry and warm day may follow a wet day and vice versa.
The Scooterpac CareCo canopy for your mobility scooter is our lightest canopy yet. Made from an aluminium frame, it is also foldable for easy storage and transportation. If lightweight is what you need, then there are no better models than the Scooterpac.
