Getting Comfortable On Your New Lift Chair

Congratulations, you’ve purchased a rise recliner chair from CareCo. We hope you have many years of happy use from the model you’ve chosen. However, our customer care does not end there. No doubt you were happy with the functions, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t daunting to use your chair for the first time.

First Steps: Getting Comfortable

Riser recliner chairs are adjustable. Depending on the model, you may adjust the positions of the back and foot rest for maximum comfort. The more motors an electric model has, the more adjustable it is, but even the basic models permit some flexibility for your comfort. The main purpose of any rise recliner is that it is easy to sit into it, and to stand from it.

• The chair should fully support your back when sitting. Your bottom should be angled into the back of the seat comfortably
• When sitting upright, there should be no difficulty putting your feet flat on the floor
• The seat should be spacious enough for you to move about. However, there should be enough support on the sides to keep you in place
• The finger test: When sat, you should place two fingers between your knees and the seat’s front. If you can do this easily, you are sat right

If You Have Trouble Standing and Discomfort When Sitting

An electronic rise recliner chair is designed with two functions in mind. The riser part of the chair moves up and forward to help you stand more easily. We advise that you get familiar with this function as it can make your mobility easier. The riser recliner controls allow you to improve your comfort, and relieves the stresses and strains on your upper and lower back while sitting. Take some time sitting in the seat and trying the various settings. You will have more choice with some chairs than with others. Figure out the position that is most comfortable for you. It will be different for everybody. A rise recliner chair will support all of your body. Ensure that your feet do not dangle over the edge when seated.

How To Sit From A Standing Position

What happens when you use the controls will differ depending on your model. With some models, the seat and armrests will rise to aid seating. With other models, you will find that the whole chair rises to meet your body. Once it has reached its maximum or a comfortable level for you, stand with your back against the chair. For stability, spread your feet apart slightly. In line with your shoulders is usually about right, putting your weight on your legs. Place your hands on the armrests. These two actions will stabilise you. When you are comfortably in position, carefully lower yourself in bending your knees as you go. The seat will start to tilt, effectively bringing your body down into it and taking your weight. Slide backwards as you lower for maximum comfort and stability.

How To Stand From A Sitting Position

When seated, place your arms on the hand rest and slide your bottom to the edge of the seat to prepare to lift. Get into a comfortable position. As you did when attempting to sit, spread your feet to a comfortable width apart. Place your feet on the ground firmly for stability. Then, begin the rising process using the electronic controls. You should lean forward gradually as you move. Don’t resist the rise recliner chair as it moves forwards and upwards. Allow the chair to complete the process, don’t stop half way through. Once you are fully standing, simply lower the chair to its normal position.
