A CareCo mobility scooter is a great investment. Although our prices are reasonable, these vehicles are not cheap to buy or to run. As a great link to the outside world for thousands of people with mobility problems, it’s understandable that you want to protect it and ensure it remains safe and secure when not in use.

The expense of mobility scooters means they could be stolen during a burglary or while you are out and suffer damage from the elements. This is how you keep it safe from harm.

Correct Storage Area

You should never store your CareCo mobility scooter outside, mostly for weather purposes. The best place for it is a secure outbuilding such as a garage or shed, preferably one with mains electricity so you can charge it at the same time.

The key to safe storage in the home is to make it as difficult as possible for thieves to steal the vehicle. The more obstacles to stealing a mobility scooter, the less likely they are to take it. Never keep the key with the vehicle. You should take other steps such as investing in some of the following CareCo accessories.

Use an Immobiliser

The best way to protect your CareCo mobility scooter when you have it in storage or your need to leave it somewhere while shopping is to use an immobiliser. You can’t remove the battery to stop somebody stealing your vehicle; it’s heavy and cumbersome.

The next best thing is to use an electrical device that cuts power from the battery to the vehicle electronically. The Airsafe Plug is one of the best immobilisers presently on the market. Simply plug it into the charging socket and it will instantly immobilise the vehicle – it becomes unusable. It’s also useful when transporting the mobility scooter by air. You won’t need to take it apart.

Mobility ScootersUse a Mobility Scooter Alarm

An immobiliser should put off the majority of potential thieves, but a scooter alarm is even better.

It will draw immediate attention to the vehicle if somebody tries to steal or otherwise interfere with it. Most alarms go off during tampering, making sure that everybody notices. This is especially useful when out and about and parked in a public place.

CareCo’s mobility scooter and power chair alarm is an ideal addition to your collection of accessories. Not only will it sound a piercing alarm if somebody tries to steal your scooter, the keyring will vibrate alerting you to the event too.

Keep it Safe from the Weather Too

Protecting your CareCo mobility scooter is not just about protecting it from vandals and thieves- but from the weather too.

Modern scooters are designed to withstand use outside, but why take the risk? To keep your mobility scooter safe from damage, you should regularly clean dirt from the bottom of the vehicle and keep the top parts free from dust. When not in use, use a waterproof cover to prevent water damage and corrosion.
